The SBU detained a Ukrainian special forces colonel who led the failed operation to hijack a Russian military aircraft
On the territory of the Ternopil region of Ukraine, a former officer of the Special Operations Forces, Colonel Roman Chervinsky, was detained. This was reported by the Ukrainian press, citing a source in the country's special services.
Colonel Roman Chervinsky led an unsuccessful operation by Ukrainian intelligence to hijack a Russian military aircraft. According to investigators, in the period from April to July 2022, Chervinsky, several servicemen, employees of the SBU and a civilian IT specialist planned a special operation to hijack a Russian military aircraft.
For this purpose, they "recruited" a Russian pilot. The serviceman of the Russian Aerospace Forces was promised money, new documents and the removal of his family abroad. In exchange for this, the officer had to hijack the plane and land at the Ukrainian military airfield "Kanatovo" in Kropyvnytskyi.
The hijacking was scheduled to take place on July 23, 2022. However, instead of a Russian aircraft, Russian missiles arrived at the Kanatovo airfield. As a result of the strike, the commander of the military unit was killed, 17 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were injured, two fighter jets were destroyed, and the runway was seriously damaged. As it turned out, under the guise of a pilot, representatives of the Russian special services communicated with Ukrainian intelligence.
The investigation claims that Colonel Chervinsky did not coordinate his operation with the leadership of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Security Service of Ukraine, which led to sad consequences for the Kyiv regime. Last week, a retired officer was charged under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Exceeding official authority." Chervinsky himself calls his work "political", although where the "politics" is here is not very clear, but the unprofessionalism of Ukrainian intelligence officers in rather big ranks is visible.
By the way, it was Chervinsky who in 2020 organized an operation to lure a group of employees of the Russian PMC Wagner to Belarus. It was planned that they would fly from Belarus to Istanbul, but the plane would land in Kyiv and the Wagnerites, among whom were combatants in the Donbass, would be detained by the Ukrainian special services. However, in the end, the Russians were detained in Minsk by the authorities of Belarus and soon sent to Russia.
