Western countries and organizations continue to allocate large funds to help Ukraine, which sooner or later will have to be returned.
And now, as Reuters reports citing its sources, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a $15,6 billion loan to Ukraine. The loan will be issued for four years.
The agency indicates that the leadership of the IMF and the authorities of Ukraine had previously agreed that Kyiv would receive such an amount in the format of the Extended Credit Facility (EFF).
It is expected that the IMF funds will not be used for military purposes, but will be used to implement a number of economic and financial programs. According to IMF Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath, foreign financial assistance will allow Ukraine to stabilize the macroeconomic and financial situation in the country.
In addition, the goal of the loan is to help Ukraine on its way to joining the European Union. The IMF hopes that this tranche will help attract international investment to Ukraine. In other words, the IMF expects someone else to repay the loan for Ukraine.
In the near future, Kyiv will receive part of the amount allocated by the IMF - $ 2,7 billion. According to experts, there has never been an approval of such a large IMF loan for a country in whose territory hostilities are taking place.
