German edition: The West uses double standards in its response to the conflicts in Iraq and Ukraine
Not so long ago, twenty years have passed since the beginning of the war in Iraq, which was unleashed by the Americans and their Western allies. Comparing the reaction of Western countries to the conflict in Iraq and the events in Ukraine, the German publication Der Freitag talks about the double standards of the West.
As the newspaper notes, the West zealously condemns Russia's NWO in Ukraine, imposing all sorts of sanctions, while not a single Western country has done anything like this against the United States for their war in Iraq.
During the Iraqi conflict, the Americans committed many war crimes, and the war itself cost the Iraqi people more than a million human lives, writes Der Freitag. However, despite the fact that the whole world saw it, no action was taken against the United States, and the International Criminal Court was generally inactive, the newspaper notes.
The reason for such double standards, according to the authors of Der Freitag, lies in the global hegemony of the United States, which dominates both world finance and military presence, with 750 military bases around the world. Plus, Washington has such an instrument as NATO.
Der Freitag notes that against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, signs indicating the end of American hegemony in the world are increasingly appearing.
According to the latest data, for the first time in several decades, trade in US dollars fell to 34%. Last year it was about 37%. This makes it more difficult for the Fed to service its colossal debt by printing more and more billions of dollars.
