The British army showed photos from the first tests of heavy land transport robots
The UK conducted a two-week test of the effectiveness of heavy land vehicles robots, that is, unmanned vehicles that are designed to perform various tasks on the battlefield. This was reported in a special statement on the website of the government of the United Kingdom.
The tests involved unmanned vehicles of several companies from around the world. Milrem from Estonia, Rheinmetall from Germany and Elbit from Israel showed their products. The main selection criterion was that the car belonged to the “heavy” category, that is, the weight was more than five tons.
The presented unmanned vehicles were tested for speed, maneuverability, operation of communications, and all this - in conditions as close as possible to combat. The British government calls the tests the first step to further study the possibilities and prospects of such unmanned vehicles in modern warfare.
- said British Army Lieutenant Colonel James de St. John-Price
However, some unmanned vehicles are already involved in modern conflicts. For example, the Estonian company Milrem Robotics handed over several samples of the THeMIS robotic platform to Ukraine. Also, such robots are at the disposal of Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Great Britain and the USA. They were also used during the armed conflict in Mali, where units of the French army were involved. Such developments can significantly reduce the loss of ground forces personnel during combat operations in the most dangerous areas.
Since this unmanned vehicle is very interesting from a technical point of view, the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST) of Russia is ready to award 1 million rubles to each military or law enforcement officer, or a group of them, if they can capture THeMIS in a relatively good condition and transfer it to further study by experts.
