Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis, deliveries of oil, gas and coal from the Russian Federation to Morocco increased significantly. Moroccan writes about it news Hespress resource. The publication also reported that over the past year, imports of Russian oil products to the countries of North Africa have increased by almost 10 times, and Morocco and Tunisia are their main buyers. As noted in the government of the kingdom, the demand for energy resources from Russia is gaining momentum due to their affordable price, unlike analogues from other states, which makes it possible to restrain the growth of prices for them within the country.
According to the foreign portal, during March, Rabat purchased from Moscow 108 barrels of hydrocarbon fuel per day. As for the total volume of diesel fuel supplies from the Russian Federation to the countries of North Africa, this figure reached 257 thousand barrels per day in March, becoming the highest in recent years.
The publication also recalled the refutation of information by the Minister of Economy and Finance of Morocco, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, that the authorities allegedly decided to impose an embargo on the import of Russian gas and oil. On the contrary, the head of the department stressed that in the period from 2021 to 2022, purchases of Russian fuel increased from 5% of total fuel imports to 9%.
The minister also announced the price per ton of Russian liquefied natural gas, which is 9522 dirhams (about 71,5 thousand rubles), while buying fuel from other countries would cost the kingdom a little more - at least 76 thousand rubles.
Meanwhile, Moroccan government spokesman Mustafa Baitas also praised the increase in Russian coal imports, as the state was thus able to prevent an increase in the cost of electricity production.
