The supply of ammunition by the West to Ukrainian formations is facing new problems. As it turned out, the giant of the American military industry, Lockheed Martin, is not yet able to increase the production of the GMLRS family of ammunition for the HIMARS MLRS. Ukraine insists that Western countries, including the United States, significantly increase the supply of ammunition. But there are other countries that want to increase their arsenals of shells. However, Lockheed Martin's capabilities for the production of missiles and shells are far from limitless. Now the corporation lacks machine tools, spare parts and, very importantly, skilled labor.

Representatives of Lockheed Martin claim that now the company's enterprises are operating at full capacity. About 10 GMLRS ammunition is produced every year. But it will be possible to increase production to 14 thousand ammunition per year only in 2024. It will take at least two years to double the scale of production.

Many of the company's production facilities are located, in accordance with environmental requirements, far from populated areas. Therefore, not all Americans, even those who have the right specialty and want to work in it, want to find jobs in remote factories. Logistics is also a major issue.

Recall that GMLRS (Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System) are 227 mm caliber ammunition with an increased launch range. They are supplied to Ukraine for use by the HIMARS MLRS as part of US military aid packages.
