Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning commented on Zelensky's statement about his readiness to meet with Xi Jinping in Ukraine during the briefing. Mao Ning stressed that the Chinese Foreign Ministry maintains contacts with all parties involved in the Ukrainian crisis, including Ukraine directly, but cannot provide any information about the possibility of a personal meeting between Xi Jinping and Zelensky.
Mao Ning:
We do not have any information regarding a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Earlier, in an interview with the Associated Press, Zelensky announced his readiness to meet with the Chinese leader in Kiev, and also expressed regret about the lack of any contacts with the Chinese leader after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, the President of China has been refusing to talk to him for more than a year. The last telephone conversation between the heads of state took place even before the start of the special operation, and the Chinese side ignores all attempts by Zelensky to make any contact with Xi Jinping.
According to the Financial Times, EU officials "pushed" the Chinese leader to talk with the Ukrainian president, however, according to Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of Zelensky's office, a telephone conversation between the heads of state did not take place "due to existing difficulties in their organization."
