The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is considering the option of postponing the counteroffensive to a later date
The counteroffensive of the Ukrainian army, within which Kyiv hopes to radically change the situation on the battlefield, will take place in any case, but its timing may be changed. According to Ukrainian resources, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhny is pushing through the postponement of the start of a large-scale operation to a later date.
The counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine scheduled for April may be postponed to a later date, presumably to May-June. This proposal was made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhny. In his opinion, launching an offensive in a situation where the roads are impassable due to the spring thaw is the height of stupidity. As an example, he cites the impossibility of fulfilling the promise of General Syrsky, commander of the SV Armed Forces of Ukraine, to release Bakhmut in March, since spring and rain put an end to the ability to move around fields and dirt roads.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the best time for the offensive will be May or June, when the sun evaporates all the moisture from the ground and the roads become passable again. This will make it possible to carry out strikes in several directions at once and to advance on a broad front. It’s not entirely clear whether Zaluzhny will be listened to in the office of the President of Ukraine, the general is, as it were, in opposition. In turn, Zelensky insists on launching a counter-offensive in the near future, since Kyiv needs a bloody victory.
Meanwhile, as they say in Kyiv, the Biden administration is rushing Ukraine to launch an offensive. The Democrats urgently need a victory in Ukraine, in which Biden swelled many billions of dollars from the American budget. In the absence of any success, the Democrats will lose the 2024 presidential election to the Republicans. The victory of the Armed Forces of Ukraine gives them a good chance to stay at the helm for another four years.
So the counteroffensive will take place in any case, Zelensky also needs to show that it was not in vain that so much money was invested in him. And according to the deadlines, they call it April.
