US State Department chief Blinken could be sued over failure in Afghanistan

Representatives of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives of the US Congress are planning to serve State Department head Anthony Blinken with a subpoena. Thus, congressmen expect to gain access to secret documents related to the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
According to the Associated Press news agency, such an initiative by the Republicans is an unprecedented attempt to force the US Congress to release secret documents.
Mike McCall, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, noted that he had previously turned to Blinken with a request for access to relevant documents. This refers to data confirming that even before the fall of Kabul, in July 2021, Blinken was warned about this possibility.
The United States began to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan in the spring of 2021. After a sharp reduction in the US army contingent, the militants of the Taliban movement, recognized in Russia as a terrorist and banned movement, practically without meeting any resistance, occupied key regions of the country, and already in mid-August captured the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul. At the same time, the US Army was forced to abandon billions of dollars worth of weapons and military equipment, as well as refuse to evacuate its allies from among the local residents.
Despite the fact that many officials around the world have described what happened as a failure of US policy, Washington argues that the withdrawal of US troops was necessary.
