Kazakhstan ratifies an agreement on demarcation of the border with Uzbekistan
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ratified the previously signed agreement with Uzbekistan on the demarcation of the Kazakh-Uzbek state border.
Here is what follows from the message of the Telegram channel of the press service of Akorda, the residence of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK):
Recall that during Tokayev’s state visit to Tashkent in December 2022, the Kazakh leader held talks with his Uzbek counterpart. During the meeting, the parties signed a number of documents, including agreements on the demarcation of the Kazakh-Uzbek state border and on allied relations between the two countries.
Here is how the head of the Kazakh state then commented on the signing of this document:
It should be noted that the total length of the state border of Kazakhstan is more than 13 thousand km. It borders on 5 states: the Russian Federation, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
With each of these countries, Kazakhstan has determined the length of joint borders, which is confirmed by the concluded international agreements on the delimitation of the state border. Thus, with Russia it is 7548 km, with Kyrgyzstan - 1257 km, with Turkmenistan - 459 km, with Uzbekistan - 2351 km, with China - 1783 km.
Demarcation (delineation) - the legal definition of the border, as well as its physical designation with boundary markers. To carry it out, first a topographic survey is carried out in order to then make a topographic map of the border strip on a large scale. After that, boundary signs (pillars, wire fences) are already installed, and their topographic coordinates are also determined.
As specified in the country's Foreign Ministry, the process of delimitation of the Kazakh-Uzbek state border for the first time took place in the period from 2000 to 2002. After the signing on September 9, 2002 of the corresponding agreement by the heads of the two countries, which entered into force in 2003, the demarcation process itself began in the same year, which lasted almost 20 years.
