Germany increases military aid to Ukraine to compensate for large losses of armored vehicles and weapons
Germany is increasing military aid to Ukraine, Berlin is very concerned about the "great material losses" of the Ukrainian army. A closed meeting of the special commission on the allocation of additional funds is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28, according to Der Spiegel.
The German Finance Ministry intends to seek the consent of the Bundestag to increase military assistance to Kyiv to 5,4 billion euros. Military experts have no doubt that this amount will be allocated, since almost all parties are in favor of supporting Ukraine, except for the Alternative for Germany and the Left, but their votes will not be enough to block this decision. All this is served under the sauce that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are suffering great material losses and they urgently need help.
The allocated amount will go to the "Strengthening partner states in the field of security, defense and stabilization" fund, through which arms purchases for Ukraine are carried out. Since the beginning of the year, its size was 2,2 billion euros, now another 3,2 will be added to them. In addition, in the next few years, the German Ministry of Defense plans to spend another 8,8 billion euros from the budget to help the Ukrainian army.
Additional funds will be used to purchase air defense systems, infantry fighting vehicles and tanks, i.e. everything that the Armed Forces lack so much. But these are only the main positions, what will be bought in addition, while no one knows, this will be determined today at a closed meeting.
Recall that on the eve of Spiegel announced the transfer by Germany to Ukraine of all the promised Leopard 2A6 tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles. In addition, the Germans supplied the APU with a large number of engineering vehicles and bridge layers. Apparently, Germany also does not want to see Russia as a winner in this conflict.
