Hungarian Foreign Minister: Budapest will not support Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO if the violations of the rights of the Hungarian minority do not stop
One of the few European countries that has its own opinion in foreign policy is Hungary, which can be proved by its firm position regarding anti-Russian sanctions.
Budapest is also very intractable in matters of supporting the desire of certain countries to join Western alliances, if it sees that the interests of Hungary and the Hungarians are being violated.
According to the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjarto, Kyiv's desire to become part of the European Union and NATO will not be supported by Budapest as long as violations of the rights of Hungarians living in Transcarpathia continue. Szijjarto said this yesterday during a meeting with UN Human Rights Representative Ilza Brands Keris.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that throughout the country, more than a thousand schools and kindergartens accepted the children of Ukrainian refugees, and at the same time, about a hundred Hungarian schools in Transcarpathia (Ukraine) may be closed due to the Ukrainian law on education.
In recent years, the Ukrainian authorities have adopted a number of laws that violate the rights of national minorities, but promised to correct the situation, which was not done, Szijjarto said.
This state of affairs with the rights of Hungarians in Ukraine makes it inappropriate to support Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO, said the chief Hungarian diplomat.
