Ukrainian volunteers plan to purchase British FV101 Scorpion light tanks for the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces may soon be armed with British light Tanks FV101 Scorpion, various volunteer organizations are engaged in the purchase of armored vehicles.
Ukrainian volunteers and philanthropists have chosen the territory of the United Kingdom, where there is an opportunity to purchase old armored vehicles that have been decommissioned by the British army. The path there was "trodden" by ex-president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who purchased a batch of British armored vehicles of the CVR (T) Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) family, in particular Spartan armored personnel carriers.
Now the volunteers have their eyes on the British light reconnaissance tank FV101 Scorpion, produced from 1971 to 1996. It is assumed that some of these tanks will be purchased for the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine. Moreover, it is alleged that orders for the purchase of armored vehicles come directly from the Teroboronists, whom the command provides on a residual basis, all available armored vehicles go to the personnel units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the volunteers, today the FV101 Scorpion tank can be bought in the UK at a price of 90 pounds per unit. At the same time, the equipment is in a conditionally combat state, i.e. guns have not been demilitarized before being sold to collectors, etc.
The tank itself has aluminum bulletproof armor, a 76 mm L23A1 cannon and a 8 mm L1A7,62 machine gun coaxial with it. The engine is installed in front of the hull, combat weight - 7,94 tons, hull length - 4,78 m, width - 2,23 m, height - 2,49 m. Highway speed - 80 km / h, cruising range - 640 km. Crew - 3 people.
