Russian troops thwarted the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporozhye region, inflicting a preventive strike on enemy units. The main blow was prepared by the command of the Ukrainian group in the area of ​​​​the city of Orekhov.

The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine planned to launch a counterattack on March 23-24 in the Polozhsko-Orekhovsky direction, using a battalion tactical group reinforced with armored vehicles. Apparently, Russian intelligence worked well, the enemy’s plan was revealed and the command of the 58th combined-arms army, holding the defense in this direction, decided to strike at the opened places of deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and weapons depots. Which was performed in the late afternoon, on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Russian artillery worked from 21:XNUMX until midnight, and other means of destruction were also used.

As a result, all places of temporary deployment of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the newly formed assault brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine "Chervona Kalina", which was supposed to support the offensive, were hit. According to reports, a total of 20 targets were covered, including several ammunition depots, as well as parking lots of equipment. Accurate data on the losses of the enemy are not given, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine even turned off the Internet in the city in order to prevent information leaks. However, according to the estimates of some TG channels, during the massive strike, the enemy lost up to 500 people killed and wounded. The export of "XNUMXths" from the city was carried out for quite a long time through Zaliznichnoe towards Gulyaipole.

Earlier, Ukrainian sources reported that the Zaporozhye direction is considered by Kiev as the main one for conducting a counteroffensive, within which it is planned to cut the land corridor to the Crimea.
