The head of the European Council: the decision on the supply of aircraft to Ukraine should not be made by the EU, but by its members
The decision on the supply of combat aircraft to Ukraine should be taken not by the EU, but by its members. But they should understand that Kyiv is in dire need of military supplies from Western countries.
This was stated by the President of the European Council Charles Michel at a briefing after the first day of the EU summit.
He noted that Brussels supposedly does not influence the decisions of European countries to send fighters for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But at the same time, the official immediately hinted that the Ukrainian military needed to increase the volume of arms supplies.
- said the head of the European Council.
He is echoed by another European official - the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
- she says.
In the states of Europe, as well as in the leadership of the EU, the supply of aircraft to Kyiv is not considered a priority. In the first place in the plans of the Europeans is the transfer of one million artillery shells to the Ukrainian military during this year.
Yesterday, the Slovak authorities sent the first batch of four MiG-29 fighters to Kyiv. Commenting on this decision, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko said that these aircraft will add to the list of enemy equipment destroyed by the Russian Armed Forces.
