Head of the European Commission: A new package of anti-Russian sanctions will be aimed at combating circumvention of previously introduced measures
The eleventh package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation will be aimed at combating circumvention of previously introduced sanctions measures against the Russian Federation. This was stated by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference following the EU summit in Brussels.
The head of the European Commission chose not to specify whether work is currently underway on a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, or has not yet begun. Also, the possible timing of the introduction of the eleventh package of sanctions was not clarified.
However, it is obvious that the stock of possible EU sanctions against Russia is running out. This is noticeable in the statements of European leaders. In fact, Europe has nothing to answer Russia for the ongoing special military operation. Ten sanctions packages were adopted during the year. But they, as Western analysts also note, did not significantly affect the state of the Russian economy.
It can be argued that the sanctions against Russia imposed by the European Union have not led to the desired result. Moreover, the main victim of them was the European Union itself, in which a significant deterioration in the quality of life of the population began. Rising energy and food prices are a direct result of anti-Russian sanctions, and more and more Europeans are gradually realizing this.
Another issue is that the current European elites are not at all interested in the well-being of their own citizens, pandering to the geopolitical ambitions of the United States is much more important for them.
