Luxembourg PM to US President: You should discuss China's proposed peace plan for Ukraine
It became known about the Luxembourg government's appeal to the US authorities with a proposal not to exclude the possibility of discussing the peace plan submitted by China for Ukraine. The German press writes about it.
The materials say that Xavier Bettel, the Luxembourg premier, turned to the US president with a request for a detailed discussion of the Chinese peace initiative. Moreover, Bettel urges Biden to discuss this plan with its author himself, Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Xavier Bettel:
The Prime Minister of Luxembourg frankly makes it clear that if the US authorities agree to this, then the countries of Europe will also support the option of discussing the Chinese peace plan. An unambiguous hint from Bettel that the EU would have already started discussing the PRC plan if there had been a shout from across the ocean that the PRC plan was “unacceptable”.
For all its territorial modesty, Luxembourg is far from being an ordinary European state. This country is one of the centers of the EU banking sector. In tiny Luxembourg, there are more than 130 banks with a capitalization of hundreds of billions of euros. It is noteworthy that from the beginning of the 2010s, Luxembourg began to actively accumulate funds in Chinese yuan. To date, according to experts, there are at least 500 billion yuan (more than 67 billion euros). Ten years ago it was an order of magnitude smaller.
Interestingly, due to banking problems in the US and the EU, the shares of most banks in Luxembourg, including Depfa Pfandbrief Bank, which is considered the best bank in the country, seriously sank. But at the same time, it was precisely those banks in which large asset portfolios were placed in the Chinese national currency and other currencies of (non-Western) countries of the world that sank to a lesser extent (and some even showed growth).
