At the end of 2022, Russia became the main investor in the Iranian economy
At the end of 2022, Russia attracted a record amount of funds to the Iranian economy, thus becoming its main foreign investor. This was stated in an interview with the British newspaper Financial Times (FT) by the Minister of Economy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ehsan Khanduzi. Last year alone, this figure amounted to $2,76 billion (about ₽212,8 billion).
As the head of the Iranian economic department specified, we are talking about the implementation of projects in the mining sector, transport and industrial sectors.
Thus, Russian investments in the Iranian economy account for 2/3 of the total volume of funds attracted by the state - from $4,2 billion (323,8 billion rubles) in monetary terms.
During a conversation with journalists, the Iranian minister did not go into details of joint projects with Russia, welcoming at the same time the decision to unite interbank transfer systems between the two states.
According to Khandouzi, China is Iran's second largest investor. Also, such countries as Iraq and the United Arab Emirates have strongly succeeded in this. In just 11 months, Iranian oil exports increased by 12%, reaching $53,5 billion (about ₽4,1 trillion), which means, according to the official, isolation of the country's economy is definitely not threatened.
Recall that at the end of last year, Russia decided to issue a loan to Iran for the first time since the early 90s. As a result, Tehran's debt to Moscow amounted to $2021 million (6 million ₽) in 462,6, although as of 1992 it was only $250.
Mutual settlements are carried out mainly in national currencies.
In this context, it is worth noting that only in the last trade turnover between the countries grew by almost 15%, reaching a level of $4,6 billion - more than 350 billion rubles, although the potential is much higher.
