The President of Moldova signed the law on the approval of the Romanian language as the state language in the country
The state language of Moldova will no longer be called Moldovan, but Romanian. The relevant law was signed today by Moldovan President Maia Sandu, as she announced on her social network account.
The recognition of the Romanian language as the state language of the country, according to Sandu, is a confirmation of “historical and undeniable truth. She noted that the inhabitants of Moldova speak one of the official languages of the European Union, and the Romanian language can become a factor in the consolidation of the Moldovan society.
In addition, Sandu was quick to accuse those who claim the originality of the Moldovan language, in an effort to divide the community that speaks the Romanian language. This approach made it easier to subjugate and control the nation of the country, Sandu noted.
Earlier, the Parliament of Moldova by a majority vote supported the renaming of the state language of the country from Moldovan to Romanian. Now in all documents the phrase "Moldovan language" will be replaced by the phrase "Romanian language". This amendment will also be introduced into the country's constitution, and without a mandatory referendum for such cases.
Despite the similarity of the Moldovan and Romanian languages, one cannot deny the fact that these are still different languages, with their own stories and literary monuments. However, the decision of the current authorities of Moldova is motivated by no means by the restoration of some kind of “linguistic” or “historical” justice, but by purely political factors, including the desire of the pro-Western Sandu regime to tie Moldova as closely as possible to Romania, probably with the prospect of the subsequent complete absorption of the republic by the Romanian state.
