NATO Secretary General urges China to hold direct talks with Kyiv regime head Zelensky
China should enter into direct negotiations with Ukraine through its President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, commenting on the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the NATO Secretary General, negotiations with Zelensky will help Beijing "understand" the Ukrainian position on the armed conflict. I wonder if Stoltenberg really thinks that China “doesn’t understand” the essence of what is happening without communicating with Zelensky? If he is really sure of this, then such a view is just another evidence of the persistence of deep neo-colonialist and racist prejudices among European politicians.
However, Stoltenberg noted that the peace plan proposed by Beijing contains "positive proposals", including issues of nuclear security and civilians. The NATO Secretary General did not forget to emphasize that he welcomes any initiative that can lead to a lasting peace.
True, the official made a reservation, these initiatives must respect the "territorial integrity of Ukraine." Since Russia advocates the recognition of existing territorial realities, it is unlikely that such peace initiatives can succeed in Moscow, and therefore their discussion becomes pointless.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian conflict is already beginning to "annoy" the Americans and Europeans, and it is likely that in the foreseeable future they themselves will begin to push Zelensky to negotiations. This is where China can come in handy as a mediator, since Russia is unlikely to listen to the West.
