Armed Forces of Ukraine received Australian disposable cardboard drones designed for cargo delivery

The Ukrainian army is quite actively using Australian disposable cargo drones... Data Drones, assembled from cardboard, is supplied to Kyiv by SYPAQ.

According to the Australian edition of The Australian, SYPAQ monthly transfers to Kyiv about a hundred disposable Corvo PPDS (Precision Payload Delivery System) drones, which are used to deliver the necessary cargo to hard-to-reach places. According to the Ukrainian press, these UAVs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are used as a deliverer of ammunition, medicines and food, and also, but occasionally, for reconnaissance and dropping ammunition. In addition, there have been attempts to turn this cardboard product into a kamikaze drone.

The drones are delivered in the form of blanks made of flat sheets of cardboard, which must be bent in the already marked places and assembled as a disposable aircraft. The drone is assembled on a modular basis, while the power plant and other avionics can be reused if it is possible to evacuate the remnants of the UAV from the battlefield. The cardboard itself is impregnated with wax, which allows the drones to be operated in difficult conditions, for example, in the rain.

The durable cardboard has been impregnated with wax to prevent the fuselage from collapsing and the drones from falling further in wet weather conditions. The simplicity of the design allows Ukrainian soldiers to easily use the UAV for its intended purpose.

- said SYPAQ chief engineer Ross Osborne.

According to reports, depending on the model, the drone can carry from 3 to 5 kg of load, being in the air from one to three hours, overcoming during this time from 40 to 120 km.

the drone can carry 3 to 5kg payload

Well, medicines can still be delivered ... but 3 ÷ 5 kg of ammunition is minuscule. But 3 kg of TNT stuffed with striking elements, this is already serious.

It’s not just that they ask the USA for Mk 20 Rockeye II cluster bombs, they will disassemble them and take combat units from there, equip similar cheap drones and will massively use them as loitering ammunition.

It also seemed to me that some kind of mistake crept in here regarding the "load", given the classification of the drone as a "cargo".
The cost of the engine itself with avionics certainly exceeds the practical exhaust obtained by the weight of the cargo delivered. what
If used as a shock, then 3-5 kilos of explosives are still all right.

for the terror of the civilian population and the depletion of air defense - more than enough! This flying rubbish probably costs no more than 5-10% of the cost of the Shell rocket. This is the calculation.

I understand the use of delta wood in aircraft construction during the Second World War, but now (with cheap plastic available) why use waxed cardboard? Greens rule?

Recycled, why not. If such performance characteristics really are, then the apparatus is interesting.

During the Second World War, delta wood was the second composite material in the world after concrete. It was made from hardwood veneer glued with epoxy resins.

        glued with epoxy resins.

and in my opinion, bakelite varnish (phenol-formaldehyde resin)

You're right ! Ecology, sir! These "cartons", as planned, should decompose after a certain time!

Disposable indeed. For example, to throw DRG cartridges behind enemy lines, or a mine, or medicines, or something else that suddenly becomes necessary. This is not for permanent delivery.

The most important thing is to deliver medicines to the besieged garrisons, reducing losses due to timely assistance to the wounded

For 90 percent of the elements of any UAV, you will read "Made in China".

If you supply cardboard in tons, then the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to glue the fighter together ... they probably always have glue with them.

Not just use, but also storage must be dry. This is not Australia for you, where plus is all year round

The idea is quite working, very cheap, fast. By the way, instead of PVC cardboard, you can make parts and assemble them on the spot.

A very interesting option, the EPR is almost 0, the material is cheap, the option of loitering kamikaze is very real - you can MON, or you can do something else (armor-piercing) ...

Too bad we don't have those. You can place containers with napalm in them and use them as lighters.

By the way, LC (false targets) can be made from cardboard ... It will be possible to use them by dropping, for example, from "Geraniums" ... It will be necessary to assign an "index" to DK-....! (For example, DK-1; i.e. "Stupid cardboard first ..."!)

We are not interested, our army is already well armed with modern UAVs, the enemy squeaks and runs, and our high-tech drones massively grind it into minced meat. Those who do not believe in this can begin to minus.

But our UAV BAS-200 has been tested in the conditions of the Far North.
I wonder if he is involved in the delivery of goods (medicines, ammunition) in our army?

Officially close the sky over Ukraine, shoot down everything that flies. Hard and angry. It's time to put things in order.

I guess what cargoes and how they will deliver them
I wonder if it is possible to spray a metallized aerosol on the path of these dry-attacks, settling on the surfaces of drones, because it will make them more noticeable?

Try to test "Peresvet" on Austrian cardboard. After all, cardboard burns well in the rays of a powerful laser.

While the Defense Ministry officials are blocking the production of UAVs with unrealistic and excessive demands, the Ukrainians will kill us with the simplest devices made according to the principle "if only it would fly." A complete analogy with the purchase of Italian cruisers before the Russian-Japanese one.
