American "Institute for the Study of War": The increase in the intensity of hostilities in the Avdiivka area is aimed at diverting units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from other sectors of the front
According to the American "Institute for the Study of War", the Russian army advanced in the city of Bakhmut (Artemovsk) and in the Avdiivka area.
The organization’s experts note that on March 20, Russian troops “probably managed to achieve additional successes in the southwestern and northern parts of Bakhmut, as well as in the northwest of the city between the settlements of Bogdanovka and Khromovo.
Near Avdiivka, the Russian army "probably advanced westward from the settlement of Krasnogorovka located at a distance of 9 kilometers from Avdiivka, and also took control of Stepovoe (Petrovskoe) located to the west of Krasnogorovka.
The railway to Avdiivka passes through this village.
According to experts from the American "Institute", the increase in the intensity of hostilities in the Avdiivka area is aimed at diverting parts of the Ukrainian army from other sectors of the front.
At the same time, American experts do not note the deployment of significant military power by the Russian army on the outskirts of Donetsk. According to the Americans, it is unlikely that the pace of the Russian offensive will increase in the near future.
Also in the report of the American "Institute" it is stated that there is a possibility that the offensive of the Russian army may induce the Armed Forces of Ukraine to leave Bakhmut and Avdiivka, but at present the probability of this is low.
It is worth noting that the assessments of American experts are often far from the actual state of affairs at the front and are based on reports from the Ukrainian command, which is trying to "sweeten the pill" for its indirect American leadership.
