Italian instructors completed training for the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the use of SAMP-T air defense systems
Ukraine will soon receive the promised SAMP-T anti-aircraft systems, and Italy has completed training for Ukrainian servicemen in the operation of these systems. This is reported by the Italian press.
According to the publication Il Fatto Quotidiano, at the military base of the Italian army in the city of Sabaudia, instructors completed the training of a group of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine sent to master the SAMP-T anti-aircraft systems. In total, about 20 people were trained, the exact number of Ukrainians who arrived in Italy is not known. Preparations began in early March and lasted approximately three weeks. In the near future, Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners will go to Ukraine to wait for the arrival of anti-aircraft systems, which will go to Kyiv "until the end of spring." Such plans were announced in Rome.
It is emphasized that the training of the airmen was carried out on simulators, the command of the Italian army had plans to conduct live firing of the SAMP-T air defense system with the involvement of the Ukrainian military, but there is no information whether they will be implemented. The Italian Ministry of Defense officially does not report anything, the Italian press puts forward only assumptions. Meanwhile, as the same newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano writes, another group of Ukrainian soldiers was trained at a military base in the vicinity of Rome, they were taught how to operate armored vehicles.
The SAMP-T anti-aircraft system promised by Rome to Kyiv back in December last year will still not reach Ukraine, despite repeated promises. The thing is that the delivery is joint, Italian-French, where Italy should supply radars, and France - launchers of the complex. Coordination is going on with difficulty, now some, then others declare "problems that have arisen."
SAMP-T air defense systems are designed to protect troops and cover strategically important stationary objects. The complex is capable of shooting down aircraft, UAVs, cruise and anti-radar missiles, including tactical ballistic missiles, which Kyiv really needs. The range of destruction for aircraft is from 3 km to 100 km, for ballistic missiles - from 3 km to 25 km, the height of destruction - up to 25 km.
