The Ministry of Defense decided to build the third icebreaker of project 21180M in the interests of the Russian Navy
A series of military icebreakers of project 21180/21180M will be continued, the Ministry of Defense has decided to lay down a third vessel in the interests of the Russian fleet. This was announced by the head of the All-Russian Fleet Support Movement (DPF) Vladimir Maltsev.
At the moment, it is known that the third icebreaker will be built according to the modernized project 21180M, like the second icebreaker of the Evpatiy Kolovrat series. Where the laying of the vessel will take place is still unknown, but it is planned to transfer it to the military in 2027. To date, two icebreakers have been built for the Russian Navy. The first one, called Ilya Muromets, was built at the Admiralty Shipyards according to project 21180 and is serving in the Northern Fleet. The second icebreaker, named "Evpaty Kolovrat", was built at the Almaz shipbuilding company in St. Petersburg according to the modernized project 21180M, which is a further development of project 21180. Unlike the base icebreaker, the new one is a "light version" with a smaller draft, which will allow him to work in shallow water. He will serve in Kamchatka as part of the Pacific Fleet.

As mentioned above, the third icebreaker will be built according to project 21180M, which means it will have the same characteristics as the Evpatiy Kolovrat: total displacement - 4080 tons, hull length - 82 meters, width - 19 meters, draft - 4,6 meters. Speed - up to 14 knots, cruising range - 7600 miles, autonomy - 30 days. Crew - 28 people. There is a platform for a helicopter. The icebreaker is capable of breaking ice up to 1 meter thick at a speed of 2 knots. The vessel is designed to provide basing and deployment of fleet forces in ice conditions, independent pilotage of ships and vessels, as well as their towing support in ice conditions.
