Britain promised Poland to replace the MiG-29 fighters transferred to Ukraine with aircraft from the Royal Air Force
The UK is ready to help with fighters, but not to Ukraine, but to Poland, compensating the Polish Ministry of Defense for the transfer of the MiG-29 to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This statement was made by Deputy Minister of Defense of Great Britain James Hippie.
The UK will not supply Western-made combat aircraft to Ukraine, it will be easier for Ukrainian pilots to fly on machines with which they are already familiar, i.e. Soviet or Russian production. In this case, we are talking about MiG-29 fighters from the presence of the Polish Air Force. According to Hippie, the pilots of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will easily master them, without spending time retraining on Western models.
At the same time, Britain will help Poland compensate for the transfer of aircraft to Ukraine by supplying fighter jets from the Royal Air Force. The representative of the British Ministry of Defense did not say what kind of machines in question, and the number of aircraft planned for transfer, too. In general, as soon as Warsaw sends a request, London will hand over the planes. In the meantime, the Poles are silent and do not send requests, and without them the British cannot transmit anything.
- declared the deputy minister.
As previously reported, Poland intends to transfer to Ukraine all available MiG-29 fighters. According to various sources, in total, 20 Soviet-made fighters have recently remained in service with the Polish Air Force. Kyiv has already received four of them, the rest require repair, and when they will be delivered is still unknown. Slovakia will supply its MiG-29s, we are talking about 10-13 aircraft. For this, Bratislava will receive $900 million in compensation. However, Kyiv is not satisfied with Soviet aircraft, Zelensky continues to dream about American F-16s.
