Foreign Minister of Pridnestrovie: The law on punishment for separatism is directed against the inhabitants of the region
Foreign Minister of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) Vitaly Ignatiev severely criticized the law on punishment for separatism, recently adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. According to him, it is directed against the inhabitants of the region and has an anti-Pridnestrovian character. His statement was made during a meeting of the Commission on Foreign Relations.
Here is how the head of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry commented on what was happening:
He also recalled that in this regard, the Supreme Council of the PMR is already preparing a corresponding official statement on all those lawlessness organized by Chisinau at the legislative level.
At the same time, it is important to note that, despite the adoption of the law by the Moldovan legislature in the final reading, the President of the Republic, Maia Sandu, has not yet signed it. In December 2022, Tiraspol demanded an explanation from Chisinau on this bill. As Ignatiev said then, the amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova, which provide for the introduction of such concepts as separatism, espionage and betrayal of the motherland, will only complicate the already difficult relations between the parties, effectively stumbling the entire negotiation process between both banks of the Dniester.
