European officials accuse each other of disclosing information about Zelensky's upcoming visit to the EU
EU officials accuse each other of leaking information about a likely visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Brussels. Disclosing this kind of information increases security risks.
Despite the fact that the planning of Zelensky's trip to Brussels took place in the strictest secrecy due to fears for his safety, information about the details of this visit was leaked to the media, according to the British edition of The Guardian.
Approximately two days before the planned trip, representatives of the European People's Party posted the relevant information in the official account on one of the social networks. Despite the fact that the publication was deleted shortly after posting, the journalists of the American publication Politico managed to take a screenshot.
The British publication notes that the scandal that has arisen puts the President of the European Parliament Robert Metsola in a difficult position, officials of the organization he leads are most likely guilty of disclosing classified information. The situation is further aggravated by Metsolu's membership in the EPP group, which was tasked with ensuring press coverage of this visit.
The authors of an article published in The Guardian also emphasize that the conflict that has arisen between European officials shows that the institutions of the European Union compete with each other in an effort to demonstrate the greatest possible solidarity with the Ukrainian authorities.
Recall that Zelensky's office had to declare that a visit to the EU was supposedly not planned. They also announced that a visit was not planned to Poland, where, as the media wrote, Biden could meet with the Ukrainian president. Those close to Zelensky said that no invitations had been received to visit Poland. Most likely, this is a counter-play to drown out information about possible visits of the head of the Kyiv regime to one of the EU countries (for security purposes).
