F-16 fighter is a likely candidate for transfer to Kyiv
Today, few people doubt that after the West lifted the ban on supplies to Kyiv tanks NATO-style, fighters will be next in line. By the way, the provision of such assistance to Ukraine has already been discussed in a number of European countries, in particular in Poland.
At the same time, if the transfer of NATO fighters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces seems almost inevitable, then it would be useful to understand what kind of "iron birds" may appear in the Ukrainian sky.
There is a possibility that a certain number of Swedish "Griffins" and French "Mirage 2000" will be transferred to Kyiv. However, there is no doubt that the lion's share of hypothetical deliveries will be for the American F-16.
Why? If only because it is the most massive in the new stories combat aircraft. More than 4 thousand units of such winged machines were built.
The F-16 is currently in service with 25 countries, including Poland, Romania, Italy, Belgium, Norway, and others. In general, supplies from "European partners" will not rust. Naturally, the United States will also hand over their planes to Ukraine.
Another serious argument for the West that the F-16 should be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is its price. This fourth-generation fighter is one of the most affordable in its class.
Meanwhile, in this case, a relatively low price does not mean "poor quality". Introduced into service in 1978, the F-16 has undergone a number of upgrades.
The most recent version of the winged vehicle, which took to the skies in 2003, is a multi-role fighter capable of carrying high-precision weapons and hitting both air and ground targets in the face of severe opposition from air defense and regardless of the time of day.
