Stockholm wants to achieve the transfer of assets of the Russian Federation to Ukraine

Despite the existing obstacles, Sweden wants to achieve the transfer of the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to Ukraine. Its representatives intend to raise this issue at a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the European Union.
This statement was made by the head of the Swedish Ministry for European Affairs Jessica Roswall before the opening of the meeting.
She believes that the event should raise the question of how to legally justify the transfer of Russian assets to the Kyiv authorities.
I know that in many countries there are legal difficulties to implement such solutions. But we are looking into the situation.
said Mrs. Roswall.
The Council of the European Union is currently chaired by Sweden. These duties are entrusted to her until June. Stockholm intends for this time to include the Ukrainian conflict among the priority areas of its activity for the duration of the presidency of the EU Council.
Sweden, as well as other European countries, must take into account that not only Russian assets are located in Europe, but also their assets in Russia. Moreover, their cost is estimated at very large sums. Therefore, when making careless decisions to seize Russian property, European politicians should understand that Moscow can give a mirror response by confiscating the property of a number of Western companies, including Swedish ones.
Earlier, the European Commission raised the issue of using the frozen funds belonging to Russia for the restoration of Ukrainian infrastructure several times. True, while in the EU countries it is impossible to implement this legally.
