A powerful earthquake in Turkey caused the explosion of a gas pipeline in the province of Hatay. This was reported by the news agency İhlas.
The explosion resulted in large fires in two places along the gas pipeline that passes through the settlement of Topbogazy. The distance between the fires is about three kilometers.
Recall that a strong earthquake was recorded in the province of Kahramanmarash. It covered the southern provinces of Turkey and the surrounding regions of neighboring Syria. The province of Hatay, in which the gas pipeline exploded, is located in the very south of Turkey, on the Mediterranean coast, and borders on the northern regions of Syria.
According to American geologists, the epicenter of the first shock was at a depth of 18 km, about 33 kilometers from the city of Gaziantep and 26 kilometers from the city of Nurdagi. Fluctuations were felt even in the northern regions of Egypt.
According to Turkish law enforcement agencies, more than a hundred people have already become victims of the earthquake. At least 200 people have died in neighboring Syria. The number of people injured as a result of collapses of houses and other buildings is also measured in hundreds of people.
Rescue teams are currently working in the earthquake-affected regions of Turkey and Syria. They remove the affected residents from under the rubble, eliminate other consequences of a natural disaster.
