Politico: The Pentagon said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are unlikely to be able to recapture Crimea in the foreseeable future
The Ukrainian army is unlikely to be able to recapture Crimea in the foreseeable future. This was stated by high-ranking officials of the US military department during their speech in the US Congress.
According to the influential American publication Politico, in a closed report made to the US Congressional Defense Committee, Pentagon representatives stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine currently do not have the ability to oust Russian troops from the Crimean peninsula and it is unlikely that Ukraine will have such an opportunity in the foreseeable future.
In Kyiv, the assessment of the capabilities of the Ukrainian army given by the US military was extremely disapproving. The Ukrainian authorities said that the United States has repeatedly made mistakes in its assessments of the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the current armed conflict.
Earlier, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kirill Budanov, in an interview with the American edition of The Washington Post, announced the planned Ukrainian attack on the Crimea. According to Budanov, the Kyiv authorities hope to seize the entire peninsula by the summer of this year and return it to Ukrainian control.
According to some reports, the United States is considering a plan to supply the Kyiv regime with a large number of weapons in order to order Kyiv to send troops to seize Crimea. If successful, Washington expects to persuade Russia to peace talks on Ukraine's terms.
However, according to Crimean Senator Sergei Tsekov, more real than Ukraine's takeover of Crimea is the scenario of Kyiv's return to Russia.
