German Vice Chancellor: I don't think it's right to supply fighter jets to Ukraine now and in the future
While in Kyiv they accepted the decision of a number of Western countries to supply heavy tanks a signal that “everything is possible now,” in Europe itself, the demands of Ukrainian officials to provide hundreds of combat aircraft are treated very carefully. Thus, the German leadership considered that sending fighter jets to Ukraine could become another “red line” that certainly should not be crossed. At least for now... Although how many of these lines the West has already crossed.
German Vice Chancellor, Economy Minister Robert Habeck, speaking on a talk show on the German ZDF TV channel last night, said that in the matter of further increasing the supply of complex military equipment to Kyiv, it is necessary to find a balance so as not to turn Germany into a direct participant in the military conflict. A senior German government official stressed that sending tanks is the right thing to do, but "there is a difference between tanks and fighters."
Habek explained that modern combat aircraft require constant complex maintenance, and this "can go too far."
the vice-chancellor expressed his opinion.
Thus, Habek supported the position of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who earlier, speaking before the deputies of the Bundestag, ruled out the supply of combat aircraft or the deployment of German ground forces in Ukraine.
However, not so long ago, the German government called it impossible to send Leopard 2 heavy tanks to Ukraine. Now they are preparing to send the first batch of these combat vehicles in the 2A6 version.
