The Greek Air Force is armed with about 50 obsolete F-4E Phantom II aircraft in two modifications, of which 34 are multirole fighters. The Greeks have been wanting to write them off for a long time, but it still doesn’t work out. In 2021, the Greek Ministry of Defense announced plans to purchase 30 Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 1 fighters from the British Air Force, which are being prepared for decommissioning by 2025. It was they who were supposed to help get rid of the already obsolete F-4E Phantom II, and the French Mirage 2000 fighters.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat, long-range, third-generation fighter-interceptor bomber. The aircraft has been produced since 1958, more than five thousand aircraft were produced in total - this is the most massive fighter aircraft produced in the USA. F-4 Phantom II was actively used in various conflicts of the twentieth century, in particular in Vietnam, in numerous conflicts in the Middle East.
