The head of Rheinmetall announced the concern's plans to sharply increase the production of ammunition due to hostilities in Ukraine
In Germany, they were concerned about the shortage of large-caliber ammunition against the backdrop of the ongoing supply of artillery shells to the Ukrainian army. The German defense concern Rheinmetall announced plans to increase the production of ammunition.
Armin Papperger shared the concern's plans for the near future, judging by his words, they are quite ambitious. Rheinmetall is ready not only to increase the production of artillery and tank shells, but also start producing American MLRS HIMARS at their enterprises. Now both ammunition and multiple launch rocket systems are in great demand both in Ukraine and in Western countries.
- said Papperger, adding that at the moment the concern produces from 60 to 70 thousand ammunition of 120 and 155 mm caliber per year.
To date, shells of these calibers are the most popular, as they are used in tank guns and howitzers. Demand for them increased sharply after the start of the Russian NWO. In Europe, they suddenly realized that their stocks would be enough for several days of hostilities, which was proved in Ukraine.
Rheinmetall is also negotiating with Lockheed Martin regarding the opening in Germany of the production of MLRS HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System), so beloved by the Armed Forces. The concern is not averse to making money on the supply of these systems. The signing of a possible contract with the American corporation is planned at the Munich Security Conference, which will be held from February 17 to 19, 2023.
- added the head of the concern.
