American analysts: If Russia and China create a military coalition, then the US Overmatch project may turn out to be an empty idea
Director of the Center for Defense Concepts and Technology at the Hudson Institute in the United States, Brian Clark, told the Defense News news portal that the Overmatch project (“Superiority”) needs the strictest secrecy, since China and Russia are closely monitoring the US Navy. As the expert clarified, all this is being done in order to prevent the leakage of information about the preparation of the American naval forces for possible large-scale military conflicts in the future.
- the expert noted.
Project Overmatch was created with the financial support of the Pentagon and the US Navy. It provides for the integration of information systems of all types of troops (Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, fleet and space forces), allowing for fast and efficient management of units anywhere in the world, which works on the basis of artificial intelligence. All this was made possible thanks to the concept of joint multi-domain command and control JADC2.
The bottom line is that the project is a large-scale integration of forces and assets at sea and in the coastal zone, thanks to which the United States expects to achieve superiority against an enemy with comparable capabilities. Moreover, if such opponents (and this is Russia and China) create a military coalition, then, according to American analysts, the Overmatch project may turn out to be an empty undertaking.
According to Clark, China is trying to neutralize JADC2 with a technology called Multi-Domain Precision Warfare (MDPW). This is an attempt by Beijing to link command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance in order to quickly coordinate the use of its firepower.
The US Navy is looking for ways to raise additional funds to further implement the program in the amount of $195 million in 2023, which is $73 million more than the planned expenditure for this purpose for 2022.
