Israel Police Investigate Jerusalem Synagogue Attack
7 people became victims of a terrorist act in one of the synagogues in Jerusalem. This is reported by the Israeli edition of The Times of Israel, commenting on the crime.
According to the publication, a car with a terrorist drove up to the synagogue building in the Neve Yaakov area. Allegedly, a Palestinian militant opened fire on the gathered people - at 20:13 local time.
According to Israeli correspondents of the publication, the terrorist waited for the visitors of the synagogue until they left after the completion of prayers in honor of the approaching Saturday, and then opened fire on them. The offender then fled the scene in a car. He headed towards the Beit Hanina quarter, but after a few hundred meters he collided with police officers who had already been called to the scene.
The terrorist got out of the car and opened fire on the police officers, trying to escape from them. However, the police killed the terrorist with return fire.
Israeli ambulance service Magen David Adom reports that five people died at the scene. Two more people died shortly after being taken to hospitals due to the very serious nature of their injuries. According to the MDA, five men, aged 20, 25, 30, 50 and 60, and two women, aged 60 and 70, died.
Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai called the attack on a Jerusalem synagogue one of the worst Palestinian militant attacks Israel has seen in years. The police officer noted that the terrorist fired at everyone he saw. The incident has already been commented on by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who also called it one of the most serious in recent years and noted that today, on Saturday, the Cabinet of Ministers will meet to discuss this tragic incident.
While the Israeli police services are investigating all the circumstances of the incident. The task is not only to determine the motives that guided the terrorist, but also to identify the circle of possible accomplices. And the motive may be associated with another military operation by the Israeli security forces in the Palestinian territories.
