Brazil's President Rejects Germany's Request for Leopard Tank Ammunition
28
The information that the German Ministry of Defense submitted a request to the Brazilian authorities, in which a request was voiced for the supply of so-called NATO-style ammunition, is confirmed. Germany was primarily interested tank NATO caliber ammunition.
Now it has become known about the answer that official Berlin received from Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
Lula da Silva, who took office on January 1, 2023, announced that Brazil would not supply ammunition to Germany.
The statement of the presidential secretariat is quoted by the Brazilian press:
Germany offered Brazil to purchase a batch of ammunition for Leopard tanks. The President of Brazil refused.
It is noted that Lula da Silva rejected the request of Germany, as he believes that ammunition for German tanks could end up in Ukraine.
The Brazilian authorities once again emphasize that they stand for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but at the same time they are not going to take sides in an armed conflict, let alone arm one of the parties. Earlier, Lula da Silva said that it was the NATO bloc that provoked Russia into action in Ukraine with its ill-considered expansion to the East.
