Danish defense minister confirms country's refusal to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine
Another European country refused to supply Tanks to Ukraine, although she had previously actively advocated sending them to Kyiv. We are talking about Denmark, according to the Danish television channel TV2, citing a statement by the country's Ministry of Defense.
Danish Defense Minister Jakob Elleman-Jensen issued a statement confirming the country's refusal to supply German-made tanks to Kyiv. According to him, Denmark has a total of 44 Leopard 2 tanks, purchased in 2000 from Germany, of which 14 tanks are located on the territory of the Baltic countries as part of the NATO forces contingent, and the remaining 30 "protect" the territory of Denmark. The removal of at least one tank from this number will damage the country's security. In addition, the Danish military needs to train recruits on something. In general, roughly speaking, the Danes will not give tanks, because "they themselves need it."
- said the Danish minister.
Earlier, Denmark signed the so-called "Tallinn resolution" on the eve of a meeting of NATO defense ministers at the Ramstein airbase on January 20, within which a new military aid package for Ukraine was agreed. The United Kingdom, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Poland, Denmark, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Slovakia pledged to supply Ukraine with tanks, heavy artillery, air defense systems, infantry fighting vehicles and ammunition. The initiators were Poland and the Baltic states.
It should be noted that on the eve of Belgium refused to supply tanks to Kyiv, saying that it simply does not have them, while Canada managed to allocate only four tanks.
