UN High Commissioner for Refugees urged European countries to prepare for another influx of refugees from Ukraine
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi appealed to EU countries to prepare for the next influx of refugees from Ukraine. His words are quoted by the German edition of Der Spiegel.
Here is how the commissioner described the current situation:
At the same time, as he added, with the intensification of hostilities, the only thing that remains for people is to look for a place where they can be completely safe.
It should be noted that earlier the permanent representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Duzhzharyk has already spoken about the decision of Western countries to send to the Ukrainian side Tanks, stating, however, that what is happening today around Ukraine does not contribute to the peaceful resolution of the conflict, which the organization is so eager to see. As the official stressed, the UN stands for a just peace in Ukraine.
According to data provided by the United Nations, as of January 24 this year, about 8 million Ukrainian refugees have already managed to move to Europe. More than half of them, or almost 4,9 million people, have applied for the corresponding status or other protection under government programs. Almost 3 million people are registered in Russia, while in Poland this figure is about 1,5 million.
In this context, it is also noteworthy what problems the countries of Europe faced when accepting refugees on their territories. More and more residents of the European Union are expressing their dissatisfaction with the increase in crime due to the riots they are organizing. Not so long ago, the Estonian authorities even declared that the maintenance of refugees was becoming an unbearable burden for them, asking Finland to accept some of them.
It seems that the increasing pumping by the West of the Kyiv regime of various heavy weapons will only exacerbate this process, but the citizens of the EU have no choice but to reap the fruits of the short-sighted policy pursued by the leadership of their countries in relation to Ukraine...
