Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the attack on his country's embassy in Iran as a terrorist act. The head of state called for an investigation to be carried out as soon as possible to involve all those responsible for the incident.
Here is how the Azerbaijani leader commented on this incident on the social network:
I strongly condemn the terrorist attack against our embassy in Tehran. In this regard, I want to express my deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased. We demand its speedy investigation and punishment of terrorists, since the implementation of terrorist attacks on diplomatic missions is unacceptable
Today, on January 27, a man broke into the security post of the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran and started shooting from a machine gun. As a result of an armed skirmish, the head of the security service died, and 2 more employees were injured. Their condition is assessed as stable. The unknown person was arrested.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizade said that the embassy in Tehran needs an emergency evacuation, which Baku will start in the near future.
According to the Iranian edition Asriran, the attacker motivated his act with personal and family reasons. As the attacker explained, it seemed to him that his wife was in the building, who went to the Azerbaijani embassy back in April last year, as a result of which his connection with her was cut off. He entered there with two small children. All the details of what happened are being investigated.
