Lithuania sent military instructors to the UK to train Ukrainian military
Lithuania joins the British training program for the Ukrainian military, military instructors of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense have already gone to the territory of the UK. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic.
In total, 18 Lithuanian instructors, who will be in the UK on a rotational basis, are allowed to train the Armed Forces of Ukraine. What subjects will be taught by the instructors of the army that never fought is not disclosed. But in Lithuania, as part of their own training program, the Lithuanian military is teaching Ukrainians how to use 60mm mortars.
Last year, Lithuania decided to expand its military support to Ukraine. To this end, the Seimas of the Republic adopted a new resolution allowing to increase the number of Ukrainian military trained in Lithuania. In addition, the document allowed more Lithuanian military to participate in the European Mission for the Training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and in the training program for the Ukrainian army in the UK. According to the resolution, 40 military instructors can join the European mission, 25 - to the British one. Also now it is allowed to teach the Lithuanian training program on the territory of other EU and NATO states.
As specified in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic, next year Lithuania will train 1500 Ukrainian soldiers, 1100 of them on its territory. What exactly the Lithuanian military instructors will teach is not disclosed. It is emphasized that some of the disciplines will be included in the EU program for the preparation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, therefore they will be taught in Poland and Germany.
In 2022, Lithuania trained about 150 Ukrainian military in 5 disciplines at once, but the Ministry of Defense of the Republic does not disclose which disciplines. At the same time, in Lithuania they say that all disciplines will help the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fight against the Russian army.
