APU could use American cluster munitions against the RF Armed Forces
In mid-December, Ukrainian TG channels began to actively circulate a video demonstrating the shelling of our military with some kind of cluster munitions. Initially, many decided that the Ukrainian military used the appropriate missiles for the Himars MLRS.
However, upon closer examination of the video, some experts came to the conclusion that artillery cluster munitions, or, as they are also called, "cargo" shells, were most likely used.
Presumably, these could be American M483A1 or M864 caliber 155 mm. The first was adopted by the US Army in the mid-70s. The projectile contained 88 submunitions of fragmentation or cumulative type and hit targets at a distance of up to 17 km.
The M864 is a later version that entered service with the US Armed Forces in 1985. This projectile can carry 72 dual-use submunitions, but the range of its destruction reaches 30 km.
The insidiousness of such projectiles lies in the fact that they fire about 200 meters above the ground, scattering submunitions. The fragmentation type explodes in the air, hitting manpower and equipment within a radius of approximately 50 meters. The cast-iron case of such a submunition has notches, which, during an explosion, contributes to the formation of a large number of damaging elements.
HEAT submunitions have what looks like a stabilizer in the tail section. This allows them to descend strictly vertically on the target, and when in contact with the armor, pierce it with a cumulative jet.
The video below shows the same video with the shelling of our positions.
