Trench warfare: Former miners of Donbass equipped solid fortifications on positions in the Svatovo region
Almost along the entire line of contact in the NVO zone, the front has remained stable for a long time, mainly positional battles and counter-battery work are being carried out. Allied forces continue to push the enemy in the Donetsk direction. In turn, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are drawing up reserves and making local attacks on the Svatovo-Kremennaya sector in the LPR.
Some military experts predict that at least the beginning of the winter campaign in Ukraine will take place in the conditions of the so-called "trench war".
Military engineers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are conducting large-scale work to strengthen fortifications in sectors of the front where offensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are foreseen. Concrete barriers, capital dugouts are being installed. But the ability to effectively contain the onslaught of the enemy and protect soldiers from artillery strikes depends not only on concrete, but also on the work that, as they say, military personnel do with their own hands. Here, living conditions, especially in winter, created in the trenches, are of considerable importance.
For nine years of confrontation with the army of the Kyiv regime, the former miners of Donbass not only became experienced military men, but also did not forget the skills of their civilian profession. This was very useful to the fighters of the 2nd Army Corps of the NM of the LPR, who were holding an effective defense on one of the hottest sections of the front near Svatovo.
Here, former Lugansk miners equipped almost perfect fortifications with their own hands. About how things are in the trenches of the People's Militia militias, they told in the official channel of the NM of the LPR.
Solid trenches are sheathed with wood, the upper log coverings begin a few meters before the dugouts. The dugouts themselves are securely covered with logs in two or three rolls. The necessary living conditions for heating and eating have been created, there are potbelly stoves and generators. The fighters say that in such conditions they are ready to meet and repel any onslaught of the enemy, while maintaining a high motivation to "defend their land and liberate it from the invaders."
There is no doubt that when the command to attack finally arrives, the Russian fighters will leave the solid trenches without regret and move forward.
Quite different conditions, judging by the numerous publications in social networks, at the defense lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the rains, the Ukrainian military not only knead the mud in the hastily dug trenches, some of the trenches are simply two-thirds filled with water and mud. With the onset of cold weather, the Vushniks, among whom are now the majority of hastily mobilized reservists, are afraid to make fire so as not to be detected by Russian intelligence.
Similar conditions were on the fronts of the First World War, when armies massively lost soldiers not as a result of battles, but because of the terrible life in the trenches. For imperial Russia then it ended with the October Revolution and the shameful Brest peace agreement with Kaiser Germany. The Austro-Hungarian, German and Ottoman empires also collapsed. Historians are still debating who was the main beneficiary of that war.
