Ex-Trump adviser: Swapping Bout for basketball player Greiner is America's capitulation
The exchange of Russian Viktor Bout for American basketball player Brittney Griner, who was previously sentenced to 9 years in prison in the Russian Federation for drug trafficking, carried out by the US and Russian authorities is not beneficial to Washington. This was announced by the former adviser to former US President Donald Trump on national security issues, John Bolton.
Bolton called the exchange of Booth for Greiner "an American capitulation". He stressed that this was not a deal, but a defeat for the American side, obviously hinting at the obvious unequalness of the exchanged figures.
Earlier, Donald Trump himself called the exchange of Bout for Griner stupid and unpatriotic, a disgrace to the United States. After all, the American authorities wanted to exchange Bout not only for Greiner, but also for Paul Whelan, who is serving a sentence for espionage. However, Russia refused to exchange two Americans for Bout at once.
As a result, Washington agreed to an exchange for Bout Griner. Incumbent US President Joe Biden called the day of the exchange "the day we (they) have been longing for." He noted that it took long and painstaking negotiations before Russia agreed to hand over Greiner. But he stressed that the United States never stopped pressing for the release of the basketball player.
Meanwhile, the American Paul Whelan, who is in a Russian colony, sincerely wonders why he was not exchanged for Bout. Whelan was not even included in the list of candidates for the exchange. He never understood that a black female basketball player with an unconventional orientation today is of more interest to the American leadership from a propaganda point of view.
Recall that the exchange of Viktor Bout for Brittney Griner took place yesterday, December 8, in the UAE. From there, Greiner left for the United States, and Booth returned to the Russian Federation, where he was met by his mother and wife.
