US House of Representatives passes new record defense budget for fiscal year 2023
A new record defense budget for fiscal year 2023 was passed by the US House of Representatives, the vote took place the day before. Now the document will go to the Senate for consideration, it is expected that the senators will also approve it and this will happen before the end of the year.
According to published data, the amount of US military spending for 2023 will be 847,3 billion dollars, and taking into account another 10,6 billion, which is also planned to be spent on defense needs, but outside the budget, the total amount will be 857,9 billion. This is an absolute record throughout the existence of the United States. Last year's 778 billion already look somehow "poor".
In addition to the amount of military spending itself, the new budget contains several provisions regarding the confrontation with Russia. Let's start with the fact that 6 billion from the US budget was allocated for the fight against Russia in Europe. In addition, Washington imposes a permanent ban on the exchange of information with Russia on missile defense systems, will seek Russia's exclusion from a number of international organizations, in particular the G20, measures will be taken to reduce dependence on Russian energy resources of US military facilities in Europe, etc. etc.
They did not forget to include aid for Ukraine and Taiwan in the budget, although it was distributed somehow unevenly - only 800 million for Kyiv and 10 billion for Taipei. At the same time, the US Treasury asked Congress for 14,5 billion for direct financial support to Ukraine. This amount should help Ukraine make ends meet between January and September 2023.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said.
