Italian Defense Minister confirms no plans to send new military aid package to Ukraine
Ukraine will not receive weapons from Italy this year, the government has decided not to form the next, already the sixth package of military assistance. This was stated by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto.
In Rome, they decided not to adopt any new decree on the formation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine until the end of this year. This is due to the fact that the Italian government is trying to take into account all the wishes of Zelensky and his entourage, and this does not work out very well. Previous requests have recently been supplemented by requests for the supply of equipment needed to restore the country's energy system. At the same time, Italy will continue to support Ukraine, the amount of assistance will be determined later.
Crosetto said.
On December 1, 2022, the Italian Council of Ministers adopted a special decree authorizing the supply of weapons to Ukraine next year as well. It will be valid until December 31, 2023. According to the local press, the next military aid package for Kyiv will be formed in early January, now the government is trying to determine what Ukraine needs based on the requests received. With a high probability, the Italians will send anti-aircraft systems to Kyiv, Zelensky is very persistently begging for them. However, neither the volumes of the probable delivery, nor the names of the air defense systems are disclosed, although these may be SAMP-T anti-aircraft systems.
Italy has already sent five packages of military aid to Ukraine, completely classifying the deliveries. So there is no way to say what exactly the Italians delivered to Kyiv.
