The US Secretary of State answered why the White House does not include Russia in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism
The head of the US State Department, Anthony Blinken, in an interview with CNN, answered the question why Washington has not yet included Russia in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
Recall that Kyiv insisted on adding our country to the list, which today includes Iran, North Korea, Syria and Cuba, back in September. At the same time, Washington made it clear that they would not do this.
In his interview, the Secretary of State explained that the US authorities are constantly working on measures that could increase pressure on Moscow. At the same time, according to him, the inclusion of the Russian Federation in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism is associated with a number of problems that can result in extremely negative and unforeseen consequences.
However, Blinken added that the White House, along with Congress, is also considering ways to avoid some of the aforementioned difficulties.
The politician did not specify what exactly the consequences are. However, earlier, at the end of November, representatives of the White House explained that the inclusion of Russia in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism would make it very difficult for world powers to find diplomatic ways to de-escalate after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. In addition, it will "tie the hands" of NGOs involved in humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian citizens. And in general, the US authorities do not believe that such an approach will help solve the problems associated with the current geopolitical crisis.
