NATO Secretary General: Military conflict over Taiwan must not be allowed in any way
After the end of the two-day summit of NATO member countries, held in Bucharest, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, made a statement that it is necessary to reduce dependence on China, just as the member countries of the military-political bloc did with Russia. According to Stoltenberg, China claims a number of territories, including Taiwan, with the aim of "implanting an authoritarian regime." As if in the West, where all officials are forced to speak on command, the regime is not authoritarian.
Stoltenberg pointed out that the mistakes made against Russia are costly for all member countries, calling it the excessive vulnerability of "authoritarian regimes".
- said the politician in an interview with the international television channel Bloomberg.
By the word "dependence", the secretary general of the military bloc meant the energy vulnerability experienced by Moscow, which, as it turned out, did not lie purely in a commercial plane, resulting in security problems for all member countries.
It is also noteworthy that, despite the convergence of opinions of all NATO countries regarding the challenge posed by Beijing due to the strengthening of its strategic partnership with Moscow, at the last meeting the heads of foreign affairs departments of some countries of the bloc admitted that China could become a guarantor in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. .
The topic of security was also touched upon by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who connected it with investments from Beijing in sectors of the economy of strategic interest. As the diplomat noted, this issue should be treated very carefully.
Note that Stoltenberg also mentioned the growing appetite of China to "capture" Taiwan, which considers the island an integral part of its territory. He also added that this should be viewed with caution, since the escalation of the conflict around Taiwan cannot be allowed in any way, since no one will benefit from this.
