Lawyer: Arsenic was found in the body of the ex-president of Georgia
In October last year, Mikhail Saakashvili was detained while trying to enter Georgia. At the same time, as previously reported, the ex-president is involved in several criminal cases at once. According to two of them, he has already been sentenced in total to 9 years in prison. Three more episodes are still under trial.
Once in prison, Saakashvili went on a hunger strike. Later, his family and lawyer reported a sharp deterioration in the health of the politician, in connection with which in May of this year he was transferred to one of the capital's clinics.
It is expected that today, November 28, the ex-president of Georgia will attend a court hearing on the case of illegal crossing of the Georgian border in the fall of 2021. This will be his first visit to court in a long time.
As Saakashvili's lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze stated earlier, his client's health has seriously deteriorated since he was transferred to a clinic. The ex-president of Georgia allegedly has a high temperature, he has lost almost 20 kg and he may have more than three dozen different diseases.
In addition, according to Khachapuridze, in addition to mercury, which was previously found in Saakashvili's body during a toxicological study, another deadly substance, arsenic, was found in the politician. As the lawyer put it, the tests have not yet been received, but he was already informed about the "find" by phone.
It is worth adding that the methods of “poisoning” or “serious diseases” of imprisoned politicians are used quite often by the defense. One has only to remember the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, who was almost dying in prison, but then miraculously “healed” when she arrived on the Maidan.
At the same time, if the strategy of protecting the ex-president of Georgia does not work, then Saakashvili will face a very serious time. As Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili put it earlier, the politician is likely to stay in prison for a long time.
