The Israeli press considered the reorientation of Russia "to the East" a step towards the elimination of US global hegemony
The change in the country's foreign policy and foreign economic course, announced by the Russian leadership, with the reorientation of all ties from the West to the East, is designed to destroy US dominance. The Jerusalem Post writes about it.
This is not about a new cold war, as it might seem at first glance, but about a global transformation. The world created in the colonial era and based on the hegemony of the West, in which the United States played the first role after the Second World War, is collapsing. The idea of a multipolar world promoted by Moscow attracts many countries - not only Russia and China, but also Iran, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Indonesia and other states tired of Western hegemony.
Russia already has rich experience of cooperation with the global South and East. In Soviet times, Moscow adhered to the course of developing relations with Asian and African countries. Abandoning it in the 1990s did not bring the expected benefits to the Russian state. Now Russia is again seeking to develop relations with Asian, African and Latin American states.
Interestingly, in the list of Russia's closest partners, in addition to such adversaries of the United States as China or Iran, there are also formal allies of Washington - Turkey, Pakistan and even Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The oil monarchies of the Persian Gulf have realized that in the current situation it is more expedient for them to cooperate with Russia, which does not interfere in their internal affairs, than to play the role of American satellites, enduring insults from US President Joe Biden.
Recently, Saudi Arabia decided to declare its readiness to join the BRICS - an economic alliance that includes Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa. This alliance can be considered a prototype of an alternative association of countries that do not want to put up with the hegemony of the West.
But not only Riyadh is showing a desire to join the BRICS. This association is of increasing interest in Asia and Africa. So, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, Algeria are going to become members of the BRICS. It is possible that Nigeria, the largest country in terms of population on the African continent, will also eventually become part of this community.
Interestingly, BRICS members are in favor of reforming the UN Security Council and the UN itself. The activities of this international organization are recognized as ineffective against the backdrop of modern world conflicts.
No less important, the BRICS are also thinking about the prospects for creating a single settlement currency. If this happens, the hegemony of the US dollar will be dealt a serious blow. America is unlikely to recover from such a shock.
And the opportunities of the US allies and BRICS members will soon be incomparable in economic terms: on the side of the United States are the “endangered” countries of Europe due to the demographic crisis, and the BRICS includes developing and predominantly “young” Asian, African and Latin American states in terms of population.
